Position Summary: The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for providing clinical services to a
wide range of women experiencing homelessness. The Behavioral Health Specialist supports the work of
the behavioral health program of The Sophia Way (TSW).

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
● Provide onsite staff and client support including, but not limited to group and individual
counseling and staff education
● Support Behavioral Health Program Manager in organizational training
● Lead group activities at shelters
● Assist staff and clients during crisis
● Assist the population served with successfully accessing community resources based on
individual need.
● Provide outreach, assessment, engagement and follow to individuals in need. Make referrals to
appropriate service providers and coordinate service delivery.
● Participate in case consultations and program evaluation.
● Provide information, resources, support and referrals to staff.
● Promote best practices in treatment approaches, support systems and interventions.
● Support the Behavioral Health Program Manager in program development and evaluation.
Assist in developing metrics to measure the effectiveness of programs and compliance with
funding requirements. Act as an integral part of the team and help design, implement, maintain,
and evaluate all aspects of this program, consistent with goals, and in compliance with
applicable regulations and laws.

• Collect information and ensure accurate recordkeeping and
data entry in the tracking system. Study and analyze program participation, including identifying
trends and tracking target goals and performance measures.
● Work with Behavioral Health Program Manager to develop recommendations and reports for
developing and improving programs.
● Prepare status reports and outcome summaries.
● Organizational & Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Maintains thorough understanding of TSW organizational policies, including employee
handbook; follows policies and leads by example.
● Non-essential duties:
● Assists with other organizational activities as directed.

Supervision Received: Position reports to the Behavioral Health Program Manager.
Supervision Exercised: None
Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Behavioral Health and two
or more years of related professional experience, or a combination of work and educational experience.

Physical Requirements: Long periods of being in a stationary position; operating a computer and other
office equipment; frequently moving to/from various work areas, including TSW's office and shelter
locations; occasionally ascending/descending stairs; frequently communicating by phone and email;
frequently remaining in a stationary position during meetings, discerning meeting content, expressing
oneself, and exchanging accurate information; frequently moving to/from off-site meeting and/or event
locations; occasionally moves supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions: Primary location will be at Helen's Place or Sophia's place, with frequent meetings
and event attendance at a variety of off-site locations.
